Есть у меня перефотографированная книга на английском, хочу фрагменты перевести, но забивать по буквам в переводчик сильно утомительно. As the 1/103I'd Mahratta Light Infantry had exhausted its -supports in reinforcing the attack,-; (Hi " Comb Rocks " there was no definite line on which the battalion could fall back. The companies on the right and left being outflanked wore compelled also to withdraw. Parties attempted In vain to seize '* Red Rocks " and the vicinity to cover the general retirement which was now in progress. Meanwhile the enemy who had developed great strength estimated at 900 riflemen, pressed the whole line back to the river, arid forced our troops to re-cross to the east 'bank. Our casualties were heavy and included 95 killed and 140 wounded while our loss in material totalled 131 rifles and 10 Lewis guns. The Slahsuds admitted a loss of 13 killed and 40 wounded which is probably a tair estimate. !- ™^'-'-l£f The reverse was due to several causes the chief of \vhicli was the neglect to observe the principle of distribution in depth. There was no reserve of troops and the smali local supports were insufficient to restore the situation when the retirement became general. The behaviour of the troops showed that the men were not masters of their weapons, and they did not know what to do when their officers had become casualties.
