SSDAG #34824 Model 1933 SS Service Dagger with Eicke Signed Runic Symbol Blade

This example was produced fairly late in the period having nickel-plated crossguards and tang nut. The crossguard on the obverse show some mild lifting and age and on the reverse have more lifting than the obverse. There is still quite a bit of the original plating though rating at about 80-85% throughout. The grip is an RZM type having sharp center ridge and this grip was broken on both the top and bottom areas when we received the dagger. We were successful in repairing the grip and it came out quite well. The SS runes button is slightly tipped to about seven o’clock having a fine silvered SS runes and double circles around the insignia. The grip eagle is the aluminum type being the “high-necked” style bird. This insignia although having age in the backgrounds still has most of its original details to the head, breast feathering, wing feathering, talons, wreath and raised swastika. The grip fits the crossguards quite well.

The scabbard of this example has a good, straight steel shell. The original paint is still fairly good on the scabbard having nearly 100% paint on the obverse and some scratching, attic crazing and missing paint on the reverse center. Most of the original brightness is still in the paint. The scabbard mounts are the steel based nickel-plated type. The upper mount shows a little mild age but still has all of the original plating and is equipped with a thinner style throat. The lower mount is also in good condition with no dents or dings to the lower ball. These mounts are retained by dome head steel screws which are unbuggered. Attached to the carrying ring is a well used black short hanger. The leather has lost most of its original stiffness but is still secure. There is enough black coating on the hanger to see that it is definitely a black example. The small retainer loop is gone to time. The nickel-plated buckle shows some minor surface rust. The nickel-plated snap clip has still good plating with some freckles in the finish and it is marked, “RZM/M5/71/OLC”. There is a black belt loop attached also having some age to the leather and the “D” ring is the pebbled type.

The blade though is the item of real interest on this dagger. The blade has turned slightly gray over the years but still retains its original shape. It is an unmarked blade and on the obverse has a runic inscription which is assigned with a facsimile signature of Theodore Eicke. The inscription is the same as the example shown in my SS Book on page 263. This inscription represents the worst of the SS beliefs and anti-Semitism. This inscription was translated at the Army Museum at Fort Bragg. The inscription basically means, “The SS man who carries this dagger will use it for the elimination of the Jewish race for Germany and the Reichsführer-SS (Signed) Eicke”. It is amazing that someone would actually carry a dagger with an inscription of this terror but as we know this philosophy was a mainstay adopted by the SS through Heinrich Himmler and Adolf Hitler. Usually I try to only deal with the military and organizational aspects of edged weapons but once and awhile a piece will cross the threshold of our modern ideals. However these items certainly represent history, right or wrong.

Excellent. $6,495.00

Все мое личное мнение. drinks_cheers.gif
